Box Score CONWAY, S.C. – Sophomore Randy Bednar had a pair of RBIs, but the Maryland baseball team fell in its second game of the Brittain Resorts Invitational, 7-2, to No. 21 Coastal Carolina at Springs Brooks Stadium.
The Terrapins (0-2) fell behind in the first and could not comeback as Coastal opened up a 7-0 lead before Maryland plated two runs in the seventh.
Redshirt sophomore Zach Thompson made his first career start and gave up five earned runs over three and two thirds innings. The Chanticleers plated a run in the first, three in the third and one in the fourth off Thompson.
Coastal Carolina added runs in the fifth and sixth. Bednar's two-run knock came in the seventh after Maryland loaded the bases.
The Terps saw freshman Benjamin Cowles and junior Sebastian Holte-Mancera made their Maryland debuts in the lineup. Freshman left-hander Andrew Vail and freshmen right-handers Daniel O'Connor and Will Glock made their Terp debuts out of the bullpen.
Maryland returns to action Sunday morning against VCU with first pitch set for 11 a.m. Coverage can be heard on the Maryland Baseball Network.
