TOWSON, Md. – The Maryland gymnastics team earned its second highest score of the season and surpassed a score of 196 for the second consecutive week. The Terps won the meet with victories over Towson (194.000), Pitt (193.850), George Washington (196.025) and New Hampshire (195.050).
"For them to go back-to-back 196s, hit 24 for 24 again and everything is really clicking so I was really happy with today so I'm glad they went out there and enjoyed it," said head coach
Brett Nelligan.
The Terrapins started the meet on beam where sophomore all-arounder
Audrey Barber matched her career best 9.900 followed by junior
Kirsten Peterman (9.825) and sophomore
Emilie LeBlanc (9.825). Stellar beam performances earned Maryland its second-best team score in the event this season with a 49.100.
Next Maryland took on floor where it earned a team score of 49.100 led by sophomore
Collea Burgess' 9.900. Barber followed with a 9.850 of her own and Peterman a 9.800.
On vault,
Alecia Farina matched her career best of 9.900 with a perfect stick to end her vault. Freshman
Alexsis Rubio followed suit with a 9.850 and junior
Emma Johnson and Burgess earned 9.925s. The Terps finished the event with a 49.125.
Maryland finished the meet on bars earning another 49.125 team score. Five gymnasts earned 9.800s or better: senior
Shynelle Agaran (9.850), juniors
Kirsten Peterman (9.800) and
Tiara Wright (9.850), and sophomores
Audrey Barber (9.800) and
Emilie LeBlanc (9.825).
This was the regular season finale for the Terps who will travel to Penn State to compete in the Big Ten Championships on Saturday in the first session starting at noon EST.
