COLLEGE PARK, Md.— The Maryland cross country team competed in their second meet at the University of Virginia's 5K Cavalier Classic Saturday, making team improvements from the start of the season.
The team pushed each other throughout the course, which included more competitive matchups in preparation for the remaining meets.

Seniors Brittany Lang (17:54.1) and Christine Laurie (18:08.8) put in work to be the second and third Terps to cross the line. First year Terps, Anna Coffin (18:13.8) and Sarah Daniels (18:18.4) rounded out the race, making them the top five Terps to finish strong.
The times between the top five scorers was tighter and helped the overall team score of 75 points. Maryland was just shy of beating the host school, the University of Virginia, who scored 72.
Samantha Facius and Claudia Dolan continued their freshman campaign finishing sixth and seventh for the Terps respectively.
Performances from Caroline Augelli, Mackenzie Morgan, Kira Freedman, Julia Reicin, Courtney Mann, Camryn Streib and Paige Novak remained steady as they prepare for their next meet.
The Terrapins will take on their first 6K run October 5 at the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Penn., which is the location of the 2019 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional meet. The team is looking forward to getting a test run on the course before entering championship season.
