Maryland Lands Six on Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America List

Full Team

COLLEGE PARK, Md.
– Six Terps were named to the Inside Lacrosse Preseason Media All-America team as announced by the publication Tuesday. Senior Jared Bernhardt (Second Team), Junior Bubba Fairman (Third Team), junior Anthony DeMaio (Third Team), junior Logan Wisnauskas (Third Team), junior Roman Puglise (Honorable Mention) and sophomore Brett Makar (Honorable Mention) were all voted to this year's preseason team.

Maryland's six selections were tied with Penn State for the second-most of any school, behind only Syracuse's seven selections.

Bernhardt returns for his senior year at Maryland after one of the finest offensive seasons in Terrapin history where he was named a Tewaaraton Finalist, USILA All-American, Inside Lacrosse Media All-American and First Team All-Big Ten selection in 2019. Bernhardt established himself as one of the nation's most productive players, leading the Terps in goals (51) while ranking second in points (78).

The Longwood, Fla. native's 51 goals were the second most in a single season by a Terrapin, becoming just the third Maryland player all-time with at least 50 in a season. His 78 points last year ranks sixth on the single season all-time list while his 162 career points ranks 20th all-time in school history.

Bernhardt was also named to Inside Lacrosse's Tewaaraton Award watch list and Preseason All-Big Ten for 2020.

Fairman shined despite increased defensive attention in 2019 to earn USILA All-America honors, posting a career-high 42 points which ranked fourth on the team. The midfielder posted four hat tricks on the year, including three-goal, one-assist performance in Maryland's OT win over Towson in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. The Sandy, Utah native recorded a career-high six points against Villanova, while also scooping 21 ground balls and causing three turnovers. Fairman was also named a Preseason All-Big selection buy Inside Lacrosse.

DeMaio had a breakout sophomore campaign for the Terrapins in 2019, ranking third on the team in points (46) and assists (18) to earn his first USILA All-American nod. DeMaio came through in big games for the Terps throughout the year, including a career-high four goals vs. #19 North Carolina and a three-goal, three-assist performance in Maryland's comeback win at #19 Rutgers on April 14. The midfielder tied for the team lead in goals during the NCAA Tournament, scoring six including a four-goal performance against third-seeded Virginia.

Wisnauskas was tabbed a USILA Honorable Mention Al-American for the first time last season after a record-breaking sophomore campaign in College Park. The Sykesville, Md. native led the Terps in points (79), which broke the Maryland record for points by a sophomore set back in 1965 (74) back Jack Heim. Wisnauskas ranks 12th in the nation in points per game (4.65) and became the first Terrapin to ever post back-to-back 50-point seasons as a freshman and sophomore. The attackman has posted three eight-point games this year, becoming just the third player in school history to post three such games in the same season.

Puglise had a standout season at the short stick defensive midfield position for the Terps, scoring seven goals while recording two assists. The Lorton, Va. native ranks second on the team with 44 ground balls in addition to causing four turnovers. Puglise's first goal of the year was the game-winner in Maryland's overtime win over 2019 Quarterfinalist Penn, while he also scored Maryland's first man-down goal since 2012.

Makar returns for his second season in College Park after a breakout freshman campaign for the Terps in 2019. Makar became just the second Maryland freshman under head coach John Tillman to start multiple games in his first collegiate season, as Makar started in all 17 games last year. The Yorktown Heights, N.Y. native totaled four caused turnovers and 25 ground balls in 2019, helping Maryland finish with a top-25 scoring defense. Makar was also named a Preseason All-Big selection buy Inside Lacrosse.

Maryland will open up its 2020 campaign on Saturday, February 1 when the Terps host High Point at Maryland Stadium.
