COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Jahi Jones, Kyle Cochran, Philip Spadafora, and Jaron Smith each won their bouts Sunday afternoon in the XFINITY Center Pavilion but Maryland would fall, 19-16, to Indiana.
Brandon Cray, King Sandoval, Hunter Baxter and Michael Doetsch dropped the first four bouts of the match for the Terps.
Jahi Jones won his 11th match of the season to get the first points on the board for Maryland. The redshirt senior jump-started the team by defeating Fernie Silva via a 3-2 decision, and was the first of three straight wins for the Terrapins.
Kyle Cochran's major decision victory at 165 pounds was his second-consecutive major decision and he has now won six of his last eight matches. The Paramus, New Jersey, native now leads the team in dual wins (8), Big Ten dual wins (3), and major decisions (6).
Philip Spadafora put six points on the board for the Terps as Jacob Covaciu injury defaulted after a tight first period, but the winning streak for Maryland was snapped as Jake Hinz took down Kyle Jasenski at 184 pounds with a 7-2 decision.
Jaron Smith came up clutch and tied the match 16-16 with a convincing 7-2 decision over Nick Willham. Smith broke a five-match losing streak with his victory and moves to 8-7 on the season. It all came down to the heavyweights, where Parker Robinson dropped a 8-2 decision to Rudy Streck which clinched the win for Indiana.
Maryland returns to the mat next Friday, Jan. 31 in Columbus, Ohio, as the Terps take on Ohio State before traveling to Penn State on Sunday. For full results from Sunday's dual vs. Indiana, see below.
