EUGENE, Ore. — The Maryland women's tennis team picked up their first road win with a 4-0 victory over Idaho on Saturday.
The Terps started the day with an early doubles win from freshman Ayana Akli and senior Kate Yemelyanenka at the No. 1 doubles spot over Laura Spataro and Maggie Chen. Junior Eva Alexandrova and senior Saya Usui then followed suit with a 6-1 win over Andjela Todorovic and Nicole Horacek at the No. 3 spot to give Maryland the doubles point. Sophomore Chloe Hamlin and junior Zoe Kulkarni were up 5-1 at the time the Terps won the point.
Singles play was highlighted by three Terps winning their matched in straight sets. No. 73 Akli began the singles victories with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Idaho's Spataro. The freshman remains undefeated at the No. 1 spot (7-0). Alexandrova then notched a 6-1, 6-2 win against Melissa Hutchet to give Maryland the 3-0 lead.Â
Kulkarni finished up the day for the Terps, defeating Nicole Horacek at the No. 6 spot. Hamlin and freshman Adela Josefova were each up one set at the time Maryland took the match.
The Terps move to 5-2 overall and take on Oregon at 11 a.m. PST on Sunday, Feb. 8.Â
