Scouting Illinois
The Illinois wrestling team (8-3, 5-2 Big Ten) ranks 15th in the nation in Intermat's dual meet team rankings after winning eight of its last 10 dual meets, including four straight. The Fighting Illini - led by head coach Jim Heffernan - dropped their first dual of the season but have only been bested by No. 4 Penn State and No. 5 Ohio State since. Illinois is coming off a four game stretch in which it has taken down three ranked opponents (No. 23 Michigan, No. 8 Northwestern, No. 25 Rutgers). Six Illinois wrestlers appear in the national rankings, most notably Dylan Duncan who ranks seventh at 141 pounds across the board. The Illini lead the all-time series against Maryland, 7-0. In the last meeting, Illinois won 25-18 on January 28, 2018 at Huff Hall.
