Terps Drop Series Opener At Nebraska

Box Score LINCOLN, Neb. -- The University of Maryland baseball team dropped its series-opener against Nebraska, 6-2, on Friday night at Haymarket Park in Lincoln, Nebraska.

What You Should Know
  • Maryland headed into Lincoln to face the red-hot Nebraska Cornhuskers who were a conference-best 13-5 and 8-1 in their last nine outings heading into Friday night's tilt.
  • The Terps were largely quieted by Husker starter Cade Povich, who tossed six and a third innings of two-run ball, earning his third win of the season. Povich didn't allow a single hit until the fourth inning, the same inning in which Tucker Flint took advantage of a bases-loaded opportunity and drew a walk.
  • Maryland got a solid start from Sean Burke who tossed five and a third innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits. The redshirt sophomore struck out six and walked three.
  • Chris Alleyne was excellent offensively in the leadoff spot, going 3-for-4 with three doubles. He becomes the first Terp to hit three doubles in a game since Blake Schmit did so against James Madison in 2014.
  • Randy Bednar, Luke Shliger, and Justin Vought collected the only other hits in the Maryland lineup on the evening.
  • Vought's home run in the seventh inning was his first of the season. The solo blast - which nearly exited the entire ballpark - put the Terps back within three.
  • Nebraska was paced offensively by leadoff man Joe Acker. Acker went 3-for-5 in the affair with three doubles. Shortstop Spencer Schwellenbach collected three RBI in the three-spot and also earned the save on the mound.
