PITTSBURGH, PA – The Maryland gymnastics team opened its 2022 season by winning the Pitt 'Until We Unite Meet' at Fitzgerald Field House at the University of Pittsburgh.
Maryland's score of 192.925 gave the Terps the edge over host Pitt (192.900) and Long Island (192.650). Maryland posted the following event scores: Vault: 48.975 // Bars: 48.750 // Beam: 46.600 // Floor: 48.600
Newcomer Josephine Kogler captured the Vault title with a score of 9.850. Audrey Barber took the top spot in Bars with a 9.850. The Terps won or tied for first place in three of five categories (Vault, Bars, Floor and All-Around). Emma Silberman and Aleka Tsiknias made huge comebacks after injuries took each of them out in the 2021 season.
Breaking It Down
Vault:
- Kogler took the title in Vault with a 9.850. Alexis Rubio was second overall with a 9.825.
- Silberman and Audrey Barber posted 9.775 scores
- Elizabeth Debarberie and Olivia Weir recorded 9.750s.
Bars:
- Barber took the crown on bars posting a 9.850, her best this season.
- Silberman tied for second on bars with a 9.825.
- The Terps bar scores were rounded out by Debarbrerie (9.725), Aleka Tsiknias (9.725), Athlyn Drage (9.625) and Sierra Kondo (9.600).
Beam:
- Barber led Maryland's performances on beam with a 9.825.
- Silberman was second among Maryland's individuals with a 9.800.
- Josephine Kogler recorded a 9.650 and Debarberie posted a 9.025.
Floor:
- Alexa Rothenbuescher led Maryland's performances with a 9.800.
- Barber was right behind her with a 9.775.
- Rubio contributed a 9.750, Kogler had a 9.650, Sophia Leblanc had a 9.635.
All-Around:
- Barber blew away the competition and took the title in the all-around with a final score of 39.225.
