COLLEGE PARK, MDÂ -Â No. 4 Maryland (1-1) returns to SECU Stadium to host No. 16 Syracuse (3-0) after dropping its first regular-season game since the 2020 season at Loyola last Saturday.
Maryland opened its 2023 season with a dominating 15-4 win over No. 19 Richmond on Feb. 4 at SECU Stadium, but lost its first road game of 2023 with a 12-7 loss at Loyola on Feb. 11.
The Orange is 3-0 on the year with all three wins coming at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse. Last weekend saw Cuse win a pair of games, 20-7 over Albany on Feb. 10 and 15-6 over Holy Cross on Feb. 12.

Series History - Syracuse
- Maryland holds a 12-6 record against the Orange and are 4-0 since John Tillman took over the Terrapin program in 2011.
- This is just the fourth regular-season meeting between the two national powers since the NCAA era began in 1971.
- Last season, the Terps beat the Orange, 14-10, in the Carrier Dome on Feb. 20. Eight different Terps scored in the win, led by Logan Wisnauskas's four goals. Logan McNaney made 12 stops for Maryland in net.
- This is the Orange's first trip to College Park since the 1997 NCAA Final Four was played in the then-Byrd Stadium. Maryland advanded to the championship game via an 18-17 win over the Orange. Tied at 17-17, Andrew Whipple fed a cutting Matt Hahn on the left side of the crease and Hahn finished for his third goal of the day with 2:21 remaining in the fourth quarter to put the Terps on top for good.
- The last time Syracuse came to Maryland in the regular season was on March 9,1983. Cuse won that game 16-13.

Mcnaney & Wierman: 400-CLUB TERPS
- With his 11th of 2 saves vs. Richmond on Feb. 4, senior goalie Logan McNaney became just ninth net-minder in the 98-season history of Maryland men's lacrosse to reach the 400-save mark. McNaney made five stops at Loyola to give him 406 for his career.

The Long Game
- Senior midfielder Kyle Long is working his way up the ranks on several of Maryland's career lists. The Springfield, PA, native is currently tied with Bill Pettit (1962-64) for 39th on the career scoring chart with 118 points. Dick Corrigan (1954-58) is next in the 38th spot with 119 points, while the trio of Ron Martinello (1978-81), Mike Chanenchuk (2012-14), and Bubba Fairman (2017-22) is three points ahead with 121.
- Long is also climbing up the career assists chart. He enters the Syracuse game with 72 career assists, just two shy of Joe Walters' (2003-06) 74, which is 21st on the list. Long is third all-time among Maryland midfielders in career assists, behind only Frank Urso (1973-76) with 81 and Anthony DeMaio (2018-22) with 75.

Hat Trick Terps
- Maryland has had a hat trick in 59 straight games dating back to February 2, 2019. Logan Wisanuskas and Jared Bernhardt lead the way with 37 and 29 hat tricks, respectively, during that span.
- Owen Murphy continued the streak with four goals in Maryland's 2023 season-opening win over No. 19 Richmond.
- Daniel Kelly netted four goals in Maryland's 12-7 loss at Loyola on Feb. 12 to keep the streak alive.

- Since John Tillman took over the program in 2011, Maryland has won 139 of the 155 games in which it has scored 10 or more goals for a .897 winning percentage.
- The Terps scored at least ten goals in 17 of 18 games in 2022 with the lone single-digit scoring game coming in the NCAA Championship game, a 9-7 victory over Cornell on May 30.
- Maryland is 1-0 in 2023 when scoring 10+ after opening the season with a 15-4 win over No. 19 Richmond.
- The last time Maryland scored less than 10 in a regular season game (not including conference tournament games) was April 28, 2018. The Terps rallied from a 7-5 deficit in the fourth quarter by scoring the final three goals of the game to top Johns Hopkins, 8-7, at Homewood Field.
- The last time Maryland failed to reach 10 goals or more at home dates all the way back to May 9, 2015. Maryland hosted Yale in the first round of the NCAA tournament and advanced with an 8-7 victory. The Terps trailed 7-4 early in the fourth quarter, but four straight goals by Bryan Cole, Joe LoCascio, Matt Rambo, and Henry West brough home the victory.
- Maryland is also 102-13 (.887) in the last eight seasons when scoring at least 10 goals.
Holding Opponents To Single-Digits
- Maryland is 116-11 since Tillman took over the program in 2011 when it allows nine goals or less, for a .913 winning percentage.
- Maryland is 1-0 in 2023 holding opponents to less than 10 goals after a 15-4 win over No. 19 Richmond on Feb. 4.
- The last time the Terps allowed less than 10 goals and lost a game was March 4, 2017 - a 5-4 loss at Notre Dame.
- The last time Maryland suffered a home loss when giving up less than 10 goals was back to the first year of the Big Ten Tournament when Ohio State topped the Terps, 9-6, in the conference semifinals at SECU Stadium.

Pole Goals
- Last season the Terps enjoyed a boost of offense from long poles with 10 pole-goals.
- The 2023 season started much the same with the first goal of the season coming via a pole-goal from LSM John Geppert, who was the leading pole-goal scorer in 2022 with 10.
- The 2023 total is already at two pole goals with LSM Jack McDonald also finding the net vs. the Spiders.

Terps' 98th Season of Men's Lacrosse
- The Terps boast an all-time record of 873-278-4 (.758) entering the 2023 season, dating back to the first varsity team in 1924 (a team was not fielded in 1944 and 1945 due to World War II). Maryland has finished with a .500 or better record in all 97 seasons of existence. The program reached the 800-win milestone with a thrilling 12-6 victory on April 12, 2017 on the road against Albany.
- Maryland finished the decade of the 2010s 134-42 for a .761 winning percentage, making it the winningest decade in Terrapin lacrosse history. Nine of those seasons came under the direction of head coach John Tillman, who has posted a 122-38 record and .763 winning percentage at the helm for Maryland.

Staff Updates
- The Terrapins welcome two new assistant coaches in 2023.
- Jake Bernhardt rejoined the staff on July 6, 2022, after five seasons at the University of Vermont working under fellow Terp alum Chris Feifs. During his tenure the Catamounts won the America East twice, made their first two NCAA Tournaments in program history, and went 44-24. Bernhardt was a member of the Terrapins' staff in 2014 as the Director of Operations.
- Tim O'Branski joined the Terps in September 2022 as the team's volunteer assistant coach. Before becoming a Terp, O'Branski spent two years as offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Mercer University.
