UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – For the second time this season, sophomore
Rose Coats broke the Maryland cross country team's school record for a 6K race turning in another sub-20 minute time. Coats shaved just over six seconds off her previous record clocking a time of 19:53.8 to finish eighth overall at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional hosted by Penn State.
Coats' individual finish was the second-best in program history at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional just behind Alexandra Lucki who was seventh in 2017.
As a team, Maryland placed ninth which was just one spot behind its 2023 finish which was the program's best since 2003.
West Virginia won the meet followed by Georgetown. The top two teams automatically advance to the NCAA Championship from each of the nine regionals, while the rest of the field is filled out by at-large berths.
For the Terps, four harriers finished among the top 75 in the field of 214.
Katie Turk and
Eva Rogers placed 49
th and 50
th overall, respectively, with their time separated by just one-tenth of a second.
Katie Altieri was 72
nd overall (21:35.0), while
Emma Lorey rounded out the top five scorers (122, 22:21.9)
Up Next: As a team, Maryland will conclude the cross country season and prepare for the start of the indoor track & field campaign. Once the regional winners and at-large teams fill out the NCAA Championships, Coats will find out if she earns an individual spot in the NCAA Championship meet on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Madison, Wisconsin.
