Maryland Prepares for Another Two Meet Week

COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Maryland Gymnastics team will travel to Philadelphia to compete in the Temple Quad Thursday afternoon. The Terrapins will face Temple, North Carolina State, and Penn. The meet begins at 1 p.m., and fans can watch the action live on ESPN Plus. The Terrapins will then have a few days to prepare to compete at Towson on Sunday, March 10th, facing the Tigers at 1 p.m. 

 
SETTING THE STAGE
  • The GymTerps finished first at the Yale Quad with a season-high score of 197.300. 
  • The Terrapins reached a season-high score on bars, totaling 49.400 for the event. 
  • Senior Alexa Rothenbuescher made a new career high on bars, scoring a 9.925. 
  • Junior Tasha Brozowski matched her career best on bars, scoring a 9.875. 
  • On beam, Sophomore Madeline Komoroski scored a 9.925, matching her newly made career high which she scored at the Maryland Quad one day prior.
  • Graduate Emma Silberman scored a 9.875 on the beam, tying her career best. 
  • Strong performances were also made on the floor, with Sophomore Taylor Rech matching her career best of 9.875. 
  • Following Rech was Junior Rhea LeBlanc, also tying her career best of 9.900 on floor. 
  • The Terps finished strong on vault at the Yale Quad, where Freshman Natalie Martin scored a career-high of 9.925. 
  • Silberman was named a 2024 AAI Award Nominee, an award that will be presented to the most outstanding collegiate senior female gymnast in the country. 
  • Silberman is now among Maryland's top ten scorers of all time. She recently surpassed Stephanie Giameo for seventh all-time. 
  • Martin and Silberman were named Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch before the season.  
  • The Terps will be competing in the Kidney Care Women's Gymnastics Championships in Nashville, Tennessee on March 16th. Use this link to purchase tickets, and use the promo code "Maryland" to sit in our designated section.
  • The Terps opened their conference schedule with a 196.450-195.550 win over Rutgers. 
  • Maryland opened the season against West Chester, tying their best season-opening score in program history with a 196.150.
Graduate Student Emma Silberman was named a 2024 AAI Award Nominee. 
50 Years of Maryland gymnastics
  • In the 2023-24 season, Maryland gymnastics will celebrate its 50th year of competition. 
  • The team's first year of action came in 1973-74, when head coach Patricia Long assembled a roster of seven student-athletes to practice in the annex gym of Cole Field House. Four head coaches and 49 years later, the Terps fielded a roster of 22 gymnasts that competed on the XFINITY Center court during the 2022-23 season.

Brett Nelligan
Brett Nelligan enters his fifteenth season as head coach of the Terrapins in 2023-24. Nelligan became the fourth head coach in program history on May 1, 2009, following the retirement of his father, Bob Nelligan.
Freshman sensation 
  • Freshman Natalie Martin was named a Big Ten Gymnast to Watch prior to the season.
  • Martin was also named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week following her outstanding performances against Rutgers and Minnesota.
  • At the Yale Quad, Martin reached a new career high on vault scoring a 9.925. 
  • Martin had an impressive debut in the season opener against West Chester earning scores of a 9.850 on vault, 9.850 on beam, and a 9.875 on floor.

Natalie Martin was named Big Ten Co-Gymnast of the Week following her remarkable performances.
