COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's team dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 22-ranked Wake Forest on Sunday at the Tennis Center At College Park. The Terps captured a victory at the No. 3 singles spot but could not earn a point in the match. Maryland falls to 6-7 on the season and 0-5 in the ACC, while Wake Forest raises their record to 11-1 on the year with a 2-0 mark in conference play.
In doubles play, the No. 3 doubles team of juniors Chris Chiu (Columbia, Md.) and Greg Chambers (Silver Spring Md.) won their second match in the ACC this year, defeating Wake Forest's Justin Kaufmann and Andrew Simpson, 8-4. The two are now 6-4 together this season. At the No. 1 spot, freshman Haris Causevic (Silver Spring, Md.) and senior Jonathan Murchison (Orchard Park, N.Y.) lost to David Loewenthal and Trent Brendon, 8-4. Mike Murray and Derrick Spice of the Demon Deacons downed freshmen David Reichsfeld (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) and Troy Demers (Annapolis, Md.), 8-3, at the No. 2 doubles position.
Causevic lost his fifth match of the season in singles play to Loewenthal, ranked 46 nationally by the Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 1 position. At the No. 2 spot, Wake Forest's David Bere defeated Chiu 6-1, 6-3. Demers lost his sixth match of the season at the No. 3 position, falling to Spice, 7-6, 6-3. At the No. 4 spot, Murchison fell to Brendon, 6-1, 6-1. Wake Forest's Kaufmann dealt Reichsfeld his fifth defeat of the season, 6-3, 6-4, at the No. 6 position.
The Terps take next weekend off before returning to the courts of the Tennis Center At College Park April 7 to face NC State at 11 a.m.
