Maryland Men End Season With Loss To NC State, 4-1.

RALEIGH, N.C. - The University of Maryland men's tennis team ended its 2003-04 season with a loss in the opening round to NC State, 4-1. The Wolfpack's Conor Taylor posted the third singles win for the Pack, clinching the match in the No. 1 singles position. The Terps ended their season with an 8-10 record overall and 0-9 mark in league play.

The team doubles point went to the Wolfpack as the Terps fell in all three matches. Maryland's Chase Dawson (Timonium, Md.) and Scott Fink (Roslyn Heights, Md.) came the closest to notching a doubles win. They were edged 9-7 by Val Banada and William Noblitt in the No. 3 doubles position.

The Pack took two matches quickly to push their lead to 3-0. William Noblitt blanked John O'Rourke, 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 position. Scott Fink lost in the No. 4 position to Andre Iriarte, 6-0, 6-2.

Junior Ian Bliss (Plainview, N.Y.) kept the Terps alive when he defeated Val Banada, 6-1, 7-6 (4) in the No. 2 singles spot. However, the Pack put the match away when Conor Taylor defeated Troy Demers (Annapolis, Md.) 6-2, 7-6 (2) in the top singles spot.
