As a Junior (2011-12): Maryland's top performer in the 1000 free (9:31.88) and 1650 free (15:34.47)...also top five in the 500 free (4:30.31), 100 back (50.62) and 200 back (1:46.89)...finished 21st in the 500 free (4:35.87) at the 2012 ACC Championships...won the 500 free (4:30.31) at the Terrapin Cup...also finished fourth in the 100 back (50.71), second in the 1650 free (15:34.47) and third in the 200 back (1:51.51).

As a Sophomore: Top five performer for Maryland in the 200 back and 1000 free...best on the squad in the 1650 free...finished 28th in the 100 back (51.15) at the ACC Championships...touched the wall 19th in the 1650 free (15:55.44)...took 22nd in the 200 back (1:50.16).

As a Freshman (2009-10): Notched Terp top five performances in the 200 back (second - 1:48.28), 100 back (third - 50.60) and the 1650 free (fifth - 15:54.91)...finished 22nd in both the 200 back (1:50.10) and the 1650 free at the ACC Championships...member of third place 200 (1:33.19) and 400 medley relays (3:24.13) at the 2009 Terrapin Cup...individually, took fifth in the 200 back, sixth in the 100 back, seventh in the 1650 free and 15th in the 500 free...set career-best marks in the 100 and 200 back.

Before Maryland: Four-year letterwinner for coaches Kevin Ahearn, Joe Gesker and Bob Broft...Paul VI Catholic was VISA state champions in 2006...also competed with Curl Burke Swim Club where the team was runner-up at NCSA Junior Nationals in 2009.

Personal: Son of Leonard and Kim Spina...has one sister, Katie...member of Spanish National Honor Society...hobbies include long boarding and playing guitar...majoring in Aerospace Engineering.
