Scouting the Terps
-Maryland has recorded at least one stolen base in five of its last eight games and continues to be one of the most aggressive teams in the country on the basepaths. The Terps lead the ACC with 87 steals, a total which is tied for 14th nationally. NC State is the next closest team in the conference with 80 SBs.
-Charlie White leads the ACC in steals (35) and ranks second nationally trailing Campbell's Ben McQuown by eight. White is averaging 0.81 steals per game and has swiped 11 bags in 21 ACC games, which is the second-highest total in the conference. By stealing his 34th base of the season against Mt. St. Mary's (4/17), White became Maryland's all-time single-season stolen base leader. He enters the weekend five stolen bases shy of Maryland's career record.
-With his grand slam at Towson (4/24), LaMonte Wade became the first Terrapin to record a grand slam since Dan Benick hit one at Virginia on April 4, 2009. It is also marked Wade's first career home run.
-Since his April 3 start against Rider, Jake Stinnett has a team-best 2.08 ERA. The junior has three quality starts in his last four appearances and has held his opponents to three or less earned runs in all four starts. During this span, opponents are hitting .217 against Stinnett, the best mark on the team.
-With saves against Liberty and Towson this week, Kevin Mooney now has seven saves on the season. Mooney is one save shy of tying Brett Cecil and Jimmy Reed for the second-most saves in a single-season in program history. Cecil holds the record with 13 in 2006. Reed had eight saves in 2012 before moving to the weekend rotation.
-The Terps have 92 doubles, which is tied for second in the conference and is 11th nationally. The Terps are averaging 2.14 per game, which is the second-best average in the ACC. The team is within striking distance of the program-record 129 doubles in 2001.
Scouting the Blue Devils
-Duke welcomes the Terps riding a six-game ACC losing streak. The Blue Devils were swept at Florida State and at North Carolina in each of their last two conference series. Duke won two midweek games against High Point this week to get back in the win column.
-Duke ranks ninth in batting with a .275 BA and is hitting .266 in ACC contests, which ranks seventh in the ACC. The Blue Devils are averaging 4.19 runs in conference action.
-As a pitching staff, the club has a 4.10 ERA overall and a 4.60 ERA in league play, which rank eighth and ninth, respectively. League foes are hitting .279 against the Blue Devils, the 10th-highest average in the conference.
-Andy Perez leads the team in hitting with a .321 average and is tied for second in the conference in triples (4). In ACC action, Perez is batting .393, the fifth-best average in the league. Jordan Betts is tied for third in the ACC with 16 doubles and is tied for sixth in home runs with seven.
-Friday night's projected starter Trent Swart ranks 14th in the ACC in ERA (2.63) and is ninth in the conference with 52 Ks. Andrew Istler is the closer and has eight saves this season, which is tied for third most in the league.
Looking Ahead
