COLLEGE PARK, Md.- Senior 3B Steve Oursler (Clinton, Md.) homered for the third-consecutive game but it was not enough as North Carolina defeated Maryland, 16-9, Sunday afternoon at Shipley Field. The loss snapped the Terps' four-game winning streak but Maryland did manage to win the series, two games to one. The series win at home over the Tar Heels was the first for the Terrapins since 1986.

The Tar Heels quickly jumped out to a 13-0 and never looked back. SS Chad Prosser went 5-for-5 on the day with three runs scored and two RBI while starting pitcher Ralph Roberts tossed seven strong innings, yielding just three runs on four hits. Roberts also enjoyed a fine day at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with a homerun and four runs driven in.

The Terrapins would manage to score eight runs over the final three innings after only scoring once through six innings. Oursler finished 2-for-5 on the day with two runs scored and two RBI. His solo homerun in the seventh was his third homerun of the series against the Tar Heels. Senior 1B Chuck Easter (Baltimore, Md.) also had another stellar day with the stick by going 3-for-4 with a three-run homerun and three runs driven in.

The victory improves the Tar Heels to 20-16 overall and 3-9 in the ACC. Maryland falls to 10-19 on the year and 2-9 in the ACC.

The Terrapins return to the diamond tomorrow with their longest road game of the season at Kansas State. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The brief two-game series will get underway tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. in Manhattan.
