Box Score

BOWIE, Md. - The University of Maryland baseball team defeated Towson University on Tuesday at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Md., by a score of 14-12 after a late-inning rally.

The Terrapins (17-21) recorded four home runs against the Tigers (12-22). The Terps found themselves behind by five runs twice in the game, but rallied back in the seventh and eighth innings to record the win.

After Towson put up five runs in the second, Maryland fought back with three of their own in the bottom of the inning. Sophomore Brian Jarosinski led off the inning with a solo shot over the left field wall for his ACC-leading 15th home run of the season. This marks the third straight game that Jarosinski has homered in.

Junior Will Frazier doubled in the Terps' next at bat and scored later in the inning on a wild pitch. Coming in to score on junior Elliot Singletary's RBI later that inning was junior Jason Maxey, who had singled in his at bat. Frazier knocked in another run for the Terrapins in the fourth inning by hitting a solo home run to left field.

The Terrapins scored another four runs in the fifth inning after they had fallen behind 9-4. After Maryland recorded outs in its first two at bats the Terps got two base runners aboard for Jarosinski. He capitalized with a single down the left field line to score senior Anthony Buffone, who had walked. Frazier followed that up with another double to score junior Kevin Hart, who had singled. Freshman Dan Melvin capped off the inning for the Terrapins by knocking in two runs with a single up the middle.

After Hart had knocked in a run for the Terps in the sixth inning, junior Truan Mehl hit his second home run of the season with Melvin on base to score two more runs for Maryland in the seventh inning.

The Terps were down 12-11 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, but rallied to score three runs giving them a 14-12 lead. Buffone led off the inning with a single and scored when Jarosinski reached base on a throwing error by the catcher. In the Terrapins' next at bat, Frazier knocked in the game-winning run with his second home run of the game and fifth of the season.

Junior Justin Hulse came out of the bullpen to shut down the Tigers in the ninth. Hulse tossed a scoreless inning of relief to record his fifth save of the season. Freshman Dan Waters made an appearance in the eighth, pitching one inning of perfect relief and notching the second win of his career.

Frazier finished the day with three RBI and four runs while going 4-for-5 at the plate. Melvin, Mehl and Jarosinski each recorded a pair of RBI against the Tigers.

Maryland will be in action next when they play host to Virginia Commonwealth University on Wednesday, April 21, at 7 p.m. The game will be played at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Md.
