Terps Fourth in ACC Quad Swim Meet

College Park, Md. - The Maryland men's and women's swimming and diving team are both in fourth place after the first night of the ACC quad meet. The women are in fourth place trailing the Seminoles 118-67, the Yellow Jackets 64-60 and the Hokies 120.5-64.5. The men are also trailing Florida State 136-50, Georgia Tech 125-61 and Virginia Tech 107-79.

Sophomore Maya Finkler (Rishon-le-zion, Isreal) led the way for the women picking up her first win of the season in the 200-free (1:51.59). Sasha Malanina (Volgograd, Russia) finished second in the 1,000-free with a time of 10:13.29. Malanina also anchored the 400-medley relay team (3:53.98) to a fourth-place finish.

Senior Krisztina Kovacs (Budapest, Hungary) swam to a solid second-place finish in the 100-breast (1:03.50) and was also part of the fourth-place 400-medley team.

Senior Inbal Levavi (Kibbutz Givat Haim, Isreal) took third in the 200-IM (2:07.13) and fifth in the 200-free (1:54.39), while junior Erica Suguiyama (Ijamsville, Md.) finished second in the 200-fly (2:06.26).

On the men's side, Danny Gray (Carlisle, Pa.) and Martin Ott (Bayreuth, Germany) each tallied a win tonight. Gray won the 50-free in 20.96 and Ott took the 200-IM in a time of 1:53.08. Ott also finished third in the 200-fly (1:54.13).

Junior Tim Shepard (Catonsville, Md.) and freshman Eric Cullen (Severn, Md.) took fourth and fifth in the 100-breast with times of 59.27 and 59.44.

The ACC quad meet concludes tomorrow at the Campus Recreation Center at 11 a.m.
