TERPS TO HOST MIAMI IN THREE-GAME SERIES

  • The Maryland Terrapins (9-13, 3-6 ACC) will welcome the No. 14 Miami Hurricanes to Shipley Field for a three-game Atlantic Coast Conferene series from March 24-26. The visit will mark the first time that Miami has ever played in College Park.

  • The Terps' brutal schedule continues this weekend when the Hurricanes roll into town. Of the Terps' last six opponents, four have been ranked in the Top 25, including two in the top-five. Maryland has proved it is capable of beating the best in the nation, already boasting victories over No. 3 North Carolina (15-8) and No. 25 James Madison (6-5). This will be the Terps' first conference home series following three straight on the road to begin the year (at Duke, March 3-5; at Florida St., March 10-12; at North Carolina, March 17-19).

  • Last season, Miami and Maryland met for the first time, with the `Canes winning two of three at Mark Light Field in Coral Gables, Fla. After dropping the first two games, 4-3 and 12-8, Maryland pulled off an upset in the series finale, defeating then-No. 4 Miami, 11-9. The Terps jumped ahead with eight runs during the first three innings and held on for the two-run win. Chad Durakis and Will Frazier each hit three-run home runs, Joe Palumbo finished with a career-high four hits and Chris Clem earned the win for Maryland after allowing four runs in 6.1 innings on the mound.

  • Undefeated after six league games, the Hurricanes (21-6) own sole possession of first place in the highly-competitive ACC. They have already swept series against Virginia Tech at home and Duke in Durham and enter the weekend two games up on both North Carolina and Virginia in the league's Coastal Division.

  • Winners of 15 consecutive games, the `Canes are one of the hottest teams in college baseball. The last time Miami lost was Feb. 19, 11-10 to the Florida Gators at home.

  • Friday's game will be televised live by Comcast SportsNet with first pitch scheduled for 7:07 p.m. Luis "Wicho" Hernandez will be offering color analysis and Frank Forte will be calling the play-by-play. All three games this weekend will be broadcast online by WMUC Sports. Friday's and Sunday's games can be heard at www.wmucports.com while Saturday's contest will be available at www.broadcastmonsters.com. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday evening and 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
