Terps To Clash With Tigers In Three-Game Road Set

  • For the fourth time in the last five weekends, the Maryland Terrapins (14-17, 6-9 ACC) will take on a top-10 team when they travel to Clemson, S.C. to square off with the No. 7 Tigers in a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series from April 7-9.

  • Maryland heads into its matchup with Clemson having won three straight, including two over then-No. 3 Georgia Tech. Last weekend, the Terps took the set from the Yellow Jackets, sealing their first series victory over a ranked ACC foe since May of 2003.

  • The Terps have beaten a ranked team five times thus far in 2006 (Tech twice, No. 3 UNC, No. 14 Miami and No. 25 James Madison) and look to make Clemson number six. Currently, the team ranks as having played the 12th hardest schedule in all of college baseball.

  • The Terps trail the all-time series with Clemson, 35-98. The Tigers have won the last seven meetings overall, including last season's three-game sweep of Maryland at Shipley Field. In the middle matchup, Maryland reliever Chris Bowen gave the Terps a chance to come away with a win, but a pair of errors in the 13th inning led to two unearned runs and a 6-4 Clemson victory. In the bottom of the 10th, a Dan Melvin liner with the bases loaded looked to be heading into right field, but Ben Hall, a late replacement at second base, made a jumping grab to preserve the tie.

  • The last time Maryland earned a series victory over the Tigers was 2003, when the Terps swept an April 19 doubleheader, 9-6 and 8-4.

  • Clemson (21-8, 6-3 ACC) is fueled on offense by leftfielder Tyler Colvin and first baseman Andy D'Alessio. Colvin, a left-handed swinger, leads the club in hitting with a .368 average to go along with six home runs and 26 RBI. D'Allesio has been a major source of run production for the Tigers, recording team-highs with nine homers and 40 RBI.

  • All three games this weekend will be broadcast online by WMUC Sports at www.wmucports.com with Edan Algazy on the call. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. on Friday, 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
