COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland baseball program officially released its 2008 schedule Thursday and the slate is filled with the usual ACC standouts as well as local rivals.

Maryland heads south to start things off in Conway, S.C. as part of the IMIChotels.com INN-vitational, hosted by Coastal Carolina. The Terps open against the host Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, who made the NCAA Tournament a season ago, Feb. 22 and Feb. 23, followed by a neutral matchup against the Pittsburgh Panthers on Feb. 24.

The Terps' home opener is scheduled for Feb. 26 against the in-state rival Towson Tigers of the Colonial Athletic Association. The Hofstra Pride, also of the CAA, comes to Shipley Field Feb. 29-March 2 for four games.

Coppin State visits College Park, Md. March 5, before ACC play begins at Florida State March 7-9.

Four of the next seven games are against CAA teams Delaware, Old Dominion and William & Mary, with a three-game ACC roadtrip to Wake Forest in the middle from March 14-16.

The Terps' first home ACC series features 2006 National Runner-Up and 2007 College World Series participant North Carolina. The traditionally-strong Clemson Tigers come to town in late March to try to exact some revenge on a Terps team that took two of three from the Tigers at Shipley a year ago.

Following a road trip to Virginia Tech and a pair of out-of-conference in-state matchups with Coppin State and Mount St. Mary's, the Terps will host the Virginia Cavaliers April 11-13. NCAA Tournament regular Georgia Tech will be in College Park for three games April 18-20.

After a home game against Old Dominion on April 22, Maryland hits the road for eight straight games, including conference road treks to Duke and Boston College.

Maryland Eastern Shore and Towson will be at Shipley May 6 and 7 and conference play wraps up May 9-11 against the visiting Wolfpack of NC State.

Should the Terps finish in the top eight in the ACC standings, they will make the conference tournament, which will take place May 21-25 in Jacksonville, Fla.

Seven of the Terps' 2008 opponents made the NCAA Tournament last season: North Carolina, Coastal Carolina, Wake Forest, Florida State, NC State, Clemson and Virginia.
