Where Are They Now? ... Ray Megill

Oct. 3, 2008

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - So you've spent four years working diligently on getting your degree in mechanical engineering - hours and hours of reading, studying and memorization. You finally get that degree, but a funny thing happens when you get out into the workforce. You realize that engineering isn't what you really want to do with your life. Sure, the degree is always there and great to fall back on, but right now you want to put your energies into your first love - lacrosse. That is if you're Ray Megill.

Megill, a former three-time All-American defender at Maryland, has started his own company, Performance Lacrosse, whose slogan is "Improving the ATHLETE within the LACROSSE player."

"This is a venture I'm really excited about," says Megill. "Our goal is to combine everything that lacrosse players need to be better in one package". We help improve lacrosse skills and game training as well as helping with speed, agility, strength and power training. It's really an all-encompassing program."

Megill may have founded Performance Lacrosse, but he knew that if his company was going to succeed he was going to need to recruit a solid staff and he's done just that, including several former Terps and pro players.

"I wanted to offer instruction in every aspect of the game," says Megill, the 2007 Boston Cannon's Rookie of the Year, "so that meant I needed to find diversity and the best staff of instructors."

In addition to Megill, former Terps Gavin Webb, Harry Alford, Thomas Alford, Jay Feeley, Michael Phipps, Ryan Clarke, Chris Feifs and Jimmy Borell are a part of Performance Lacrosse's staff. Megill also recruited former All-American Kip Turner to work with goalies and Dr. Brian Paris, Tony Russo and Colin Cooley to help with athletic training and strength and conditioning.

"Our staff ranges from professional lacrosse players to former All-Americans to sports performance experts," says Megill. "This is not your every-day, run-of-the-mill lacrosse camp. I wanted this to be more than that. That's why we provide team training, individual instruction and group coaching. We build the program to meet our client's needs."
