  • COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland baseball team will be home at Shipley Field this weekend as the Florida State Seminoles visit College Park for a crucial three-game weekend series between Atlantic Coast Conference division rivals.

With both the Terrapins (11-12, 3-6 ACC) and Seminoles (13-8, 3-4 ACC) entering the series with three conference victories, the winner of the series will leave with a pivotal edge in the ACC standings.

The series begins at 7 p.m. Friday. Freshman left-hander Matt Fullerton will start on the mound for the Terps and face fellow southpaw Sean Gilmartin of the Seminoles. Fullerton is 2-1 with a 4.19 ERA in five starts, while Gilmartin is 4-1 in five starts with a 2.87 ERA.

The second game of the series is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday. Staff ace Scott Swinson (1-3, 4.60) will start for Maryland against left-hander Brian Busch (0-1, 2.81). Sunday's finale is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch. Sophomore southpaw Eric Potter (2-1, 4.35) will toe the rubber for the Terps against right-handed hurler Mike McGee (1-1, 4.19).

Junior outfielder A.J. Casario leads Maryland's offensive attack and enters the weekend on a 13-game hitting streak. Casario leads Maryland in batting average (.365), runs (22), total bases (47) and hits (31).

Sophomore outfielder Tyler Holt paces the Seminoles' offensive attack and has clearly established himself as one of the best hitters in the entire country. Holt leads the ACC in hitting (.476) and on-base percentage (.545) and ranks among the ACC leaders in nearly every major offensive category.

Maryland fans are encouraged to attend Friday's game and help get the Terps off to a winning start in the series. Friday's game is "Pack the Ship" night at Shipley Field. Various entertainment will be provided and prizes will be distributed. Some of the festivities include a dizzy-bat contest, sumo wrestling and a mascot race featuring the Washington Nationals' presidents. Gift cards and tickets to future Nationals games are among some of the prizes that can be won.

Tickets to weekend games are $6 for adults and $4 for children 17 years old and younger, as well as senior citizens.
