Two Mid-Week Games On Tap For Terps

March 15, 2010

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After completing its first series in Atlantic Coast Conference play, the University of Maryland will play two mid-week games against non-conference foes. The Terps host Old Dominion Tuesday at 4 p.m., and then travel to Williamsburg, Va., to take on William & Mary Wednesday at 5 p.m.

The Terps enter the games with a 6-8 overall record, including a 1-2 mark in ACC play. After shutting out Virginia Tech, 10-0, in the first of a three-game series last Friday, Maryland dropped its next two games to the Hokies.

In Maryland's win over Virginia Tech, Brett Harman was again outstanding, pitching eight innings while spreading out seven hits, striking out five and not allowing a run. Six Terps had two-hit games, led by Brandon Padula's 3-for-4, two-run and two-RBI performance.

The Terps also stole seven bases in that game and lead the ACC with 31 stolen bases this season. The closest team to Maryland is North Carolina, which has 24 stolen bases this year.

Old Dominion enters Tuesday's matchup with a 9-9 record. The Monarchs were picked to finish fourth in the Colonial Athletic Association and are led by senior third baseman Jake McAloose, a preseason All-CAA pick batting .297 this season. ODU has five additional players batting over .300 this year.

William & Mary, also of the CAA, was picked to finish 10th out of 11 teams and has compiled a 9-5 record this year. The Tribe play at No. 1 Virginia on Tuesday before returning home to host Maryland Wednesday.

William & Mary has played a difficult early schedule, with six of their first 15 games coming against ranked teams. They are 1-4 in those games thus far, with their second matchup with Virginia looming on Tuesday. The Tribe shut out then-No. 11 North Carolina, 3-0, in Chapel Hill on March 9. Their losses came at the hands of Virginia and a three-game sweep by No. 2 Louisiana State.

Gates open at 1:55 p.m. for Tuesday's game with Old Dominion. Fans may park in the Regents Drive Parking garage. Admission is free of charge.
