Terps Face JMU, UMBC In Mid-Week Contests

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland baseball team has non-conference games at James Madison on Tuesday and at home against UMBC Wednesday before traveling to Tallahassee, Fla., to resume Atlantic Coast Conference action this weekend against Florida State.

The Terps took the first game over No. 3 Georgia Tech at home last weekend, 5-2, but fell in the final two contests of the series.

In Maryland's win over the Yellow Jackets, senior Dan Gentzler hit two home runs, including a three-run shot that gave the Terps the lead, and then came on in the ninth to earn the save. Gentzler is batting .367 in his first season seeing action as an offensive player.

Brandon Padula continues to be Maryland's most effective offensive contributor, currently leading the ACC with a .492 batting average.

The Terps (8-11) will face a JMU team that is currently 7-10 on the season, including a 2-1 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Dukes will send senior LHP Jason Kuhn to the mound, who has a 1-1 record with a 6.17 ERA in five appearances and two starts this season.

Maryland will also send a lefty to the mound in junior Eric Potter. Potter is 1-3 with a 9.17 ERA this season and is tied for third on the team with 21 strikeouts. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m and live stats can be found here.

UMBC is 3-8 entering its contest with Towson Tuesday evening. The retrievers were picked to finish sixth in the six-member America East conference.

Pitching matchups for Maryland's game with UMBC, which is scheduled for 4 p.m., have yet to be determined. umterps.com.
