Storyline...
Maryland plays its first three-game home series when the Army Black Knights visit College Park Feb. 25-27... the Terps are coming off an 8-3 win over Navy that saw pitchers Michael Boyden, Brady Kirkpatrick, Chuck Ghysels and Korey Wacker bounce back for solid outings after struggling at No. 6 Texas... Maryland is in the midst of an eight-game homestand that includes a three-game set with Canisius next weekend and a contest with Delaware on March 8.
The Terps have experimented with several different starting lineups in the early going this season, which was expected as they build towards the start of ACC play in March. Of the 33 healthy players on Maryland's roster, 30 have seen time on the field. Korey Wacker (CF), Alfredo Rodriguez (SS), Jack Cleary (C) and Tomo Delp (3B/1B) are the only players to start all five games thus far. Rodriguez has started 70 straight games dating back to the tail end of the 2009 season.
Maryland received solid pitching performances from the top three starters at No. 6 Texas. Combined, Sander Beck, David Carroll and Eric Potter went 17 1/3 innings and allowed 5 ER, giving the weekend rotation a 3.21 ERA. Carroll and Potter were particularly impressive as they both went six innings and allowed a single run each. Limiting free passes to opponents via walks and HBPs has been a key early on for Maryland pitching - in the two wins, the Terps have walked or hit just four batters, but in the three losses the total number of free passes is 31.

About the Black Knights...
Army comes into the weekend with a 1-3 record after dropping two contests to Radford and one to Georgetown while beating Davidson last weekend. The Black Knights, who have won three straight Patriot League regular season titles, were picked as the favorites to repeat in 2011 by league coaches and sports information directors.
The Black Knights return 19 letterwinners from last season's club, including all nine positional starters. They have three players back who were 2010 All-Patriot League selections in 1B/RHP Kevin McKague, SS Clint Moore and OF/RHP Ben Koenigsfeld.
Army lost Matt Fouch, the 2010 Patriot League Pitcher of the Year, along with Steve Cummings, who combined accounted for 12 of Army's 28 wins last season. They have two lefties in the weekend rotation now with freshman Nick Dignacco and junior Logan Lee, along with right-handed sophomore Chris Rowley.
Dignacco, Lee and Rowley combined had a 3.54 ERA last weekend. Lee picked up the lone win for Army, pitching four innings and allowing one run on four hits while walking four and striking out three.
As a team Army is batting just .261, but there are dangerous hitters at the top of the order. Leadoff hitter Zach Price is 7 for 17 (.412), Clint Moore is 7 for 15 (.467) with eight RBI and Kevin McKague is also 7 for 17 (.412).
