COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Head baseball coach Erik Bakich announced Thursday the addition of four student-athletes to the 2011 class, bringing the total number of signees set to arrive at the University of Maryland this fall to 10.
The Terps, who signed six players last winter, inked a pair of in-state players in Matt Bosse (OF | Calvert Hall | Baltimore) and A.J. Lardo (OF | Loyola Blakefield | Baldwin, Md.), and two left-handed pitchers in Robert Galligan (LHP | St. Dominic | Oyster Bay Cove, N.Y.) and Cam Hatch (LHP | Avon Old Farms | Vernon, Conn.).
The signing of Lardo, who is the second-ranked player in Maryland by Perfect Game USA, means the Terps will welcome five of the top six prep players in the state to campus this fall. Will Bouey, Shane Campbell, KJ Hockaday and Bobby Ruse are also ranked in the top six and have all signed with Maryland.
"Our coaching staff has done a tremendous job in building the foundation for future success," said Bakich. "We've made significant strides in recruiting talented players and improving facilities. The next step in the process is winning at a high level and competing for championships."
Bakich expects to make additions to the class this summer.
Matt Bosse | OF | Calvert Hall | Baltimore
Bosse, who stands 6-foot-6, owns the Calvert Hall single-season and career records for home runs. Bosse had 16 homers in 2011 alone, as he helped Calvert Hall to a 28-9 record and a runner-up finish in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association. During his prep career, Bosse hit 25 home runs and also helped Calvert Hall to conference championships in volleyball and basketball.
Robert Galligan | LHP | St. Dominic | Oyster Bay Cove, N.Y.
A 6-foot-4, 200-pound lefty, Galligan provides Maryland with a strong and experienced arm. Galligan was a member of the varsity squad at St. Dominic all four years of his high school career and played summer ball in the prestigious NorCal Program.
Cam Hatch | LHP | Avon Old Farms | Vernon, Conn.
Hatch went 5-1 with a 2.10 ERA as a junior, when he was a teammate of current Terp Tim Kiene, in helping Avon Old Farms to a 17-2 record and a league title. A member of the Perfect Game 2011 Northeast All-Region First Team, Hatch was 4-0 in 2011 until suffering an injury that will force him to redshirt his freshman season at Maryland.
A.J. Lardo | OF | Loyola Blakefield | Baldwin, Md.
The second-ranked player in Maryland, Lardo was also a member of the Perfect Game 2011 Northeast All-Region First Team. Nationally, Lardo ranks 249th in the 2011 class, and the 5-foot-11 outfielder received a 9 out of 10 rating at his 2010 Perfect Game showcase. An advanced hitter, Lardo will also bring great speed to a Maryland team that has 215 stolen bases over the past two seasons.
