#24 Terps Perform Well in Gator Country

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Freshman Shannon Skochko set two career highs and tied another, and freshman Stephanie Giameo scored a career-high 9.850 on beam as the 24th-ranked Maryland gymnastics team finished third with score of 193.075 in quad meet against top-ranked Arkansas and eighth-ranked Florida at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center Friday night.

Giameo's performance on beam tied for fifth and sophomore Katy Dodds tied for sixth on vault to earn Maryland a third-place finish. Florida won the meet with a 197.775 and Arkansas placed second with 196.700. Bridgeport finished fourth with 192.975.

"Tonight wasn't the performance we were looking for, but there is a lot we will take from this meet," said head coach Brett Nelligan. "We'll be a better team going forward because of tonight."

The Terps best performance of the night was turned in by Giameo on beam to open the meet. The Roselle Park, N.J., native was also the Terps' top scorer on floor with a 9.725.

Dodds and juniors Ally Krikorian and Kesley Cofsky turned in top-15 performances on vault while Skochko tied a career-high 9.625.

On bars, sophomore Elizabethe Manzi led the way for Maryland. Manzi scored a career-high 9.800.

The Terps return home on Sunday, Feb. 5, against Bowling Green and North Carolina at 2 p.m.
