As a Junior (2002): Showed vast signs of improvement on the mound, lowering his season ERA to 2.97, nearly six full runs lower than his 2001 average … a key member of the bullpen, making 20 relief appearances and recording the third save of his career … batters hit a mere .253 against him, the lowest opposing batting average for any pitcher on the staff … credited with the victory in the team's first win of the season, allowing one run and striking out a season-high four in 4.1 innings at The Citadel (Feb. 16) …had solid showing at College of Charleston, yielding no hits or earned runs while fanning three in four innings on the mound (Feb. 23) … recorded first ACC victory of the year after throwing a scoreless ninth vs. nationally-ranked Georgia Tech (April 13) … in eight straight appearances from March 19-April 13 he was virtually untouchable, allowing only one earned run and four hits in that span … threw two shutout innings at Georgetown to notch his third win of the season (Apr. 30).
As a Sophomore (2001): Earned four starts in his 18 appearances ... was slowed by an arm injury that forced him to miss three weeks of the season ... captured his first save of the year vs. George Mason at The Citadel Invitational ... he threw 1.2 perfect innings with a pair of strikeouts vs. the Patriots ... struck out the side March 18 vs. Clemson in one inning of work... threw a perfect inning at Georgia Tech on March 25 including one strikeout ... allowed no hits in 1.2 innings with one strikeout March 27 at Towson ... fanned four batters in one inning April 4 vs. Coppin State ... earned his first career start April 9 at Kansas State and tied a career-high four strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work ... left the game early after getting hit by a line drive on his pitching hand ... pitched a career-high five innings April 13 at NC State in his first career ACC start.
As a Freshman (2000): Nailed down his first collegiate save against Elon on Feb. 20 ... struck out a career-high three batters against Cleveland State on March 7 ... pitched 2.2 scoreless innings against Towson on March 30 ... tossed 2.0 scoreless innings against Howard on April 11 ... threw 2.2 scoreless innings against UMES on April 19.
At Massapequa: A three-time all-county and two-time all-state selection … the team captain, team MVP and conference MVP as a senior … Massapequa won the Long Island championship twice during his career … finished with a career pitching record of 35-1 with a 1.09 ERA … also was the quarterback of the football team and was named all-county his senior year … named the MVP of the Nassau County Championship football game … finished his high school quarterback career with 27 touchdown passes and 11 rushing touchdowns … former Maryland baseball standout Kevin Haverbusch also graduated from Massapequa in 1993.
