IOWA CITY, IA—The GymTerps posted a season high team total (195.275) and took the individual title on two events in a 195.275-195.725 falter at Iowa. The Terps (1-4, 1-2 B1G) have increased their total score in every meet this season.
Seniors Katy Dodds, Shannon Skochko and freshman Abbie Epperson tied for the individual title on vault with a 9.850, while Abbie Epperson took the title on bars with a career-high score of 9.900. Epperson's score ties for 10th in school history.
“Abbie [Epperson] had a beautiful routine on bars,” Head Coach Brett Nelligan said on the freshman's performance, “You could just see it in her eyes when she walked out on to the floor today. She has a lot of confidence and right now, it's showing.”
In front of nearly 50 family and friends, the freshman posted a career day on bars (9.900) and tied her career-high on vault (9.850). Senior Ebony Walters posted a 9.850 on floor, while senior Stephanie Giameo tallied a 9.825 on beam. Both scores tied the gymnasts for second on the respective events.
The team started strong posting season-high team scores on vault (49.150) in the first rotation and beam (48.800) in the fourth rotation and showed well on bars (48.800) in the second rotation and floor (48.525) in the third rotation, as well.
Maryland returns home to face the defending Big Ten Champions, #4 Michigan, on February 7th, at 7 p.m. ET in the XFINITY Center. Admission is free and the meet marks the annual PRIDE meet.
