Faller, Skochko And Tang Sisters Help Terps To Pink Meet Tie

COLLEGE PARK, Md.—The Maryland gymnastics team won two individual titles and scored a season-high team total on beam (48.975), as the Terps tied for first in the annual Pink Meet on Friday. The Terrapins tallied its highest team total (194.925) at home of the season, and for the second consecutive meet, placed first. George Washington (194.925) tied with Maryland, while Towson and William & Mary picked up team scores of 194.450 and 190.550 respectively.

The top finish puts the Terps at 6-5-1 on the season and 2-3 in the Big Ten.

Junior Kathy Tang took the individual title on bars with a 9.800, while senior Stephanie Giameo triumphed on beam with a 9.875. Sophomore Sarah Faller tallied a personal season-high score on bars (9.775) and beam (9.750).

Sarah Faller is such a competitor,” head coach Brett Nelligan said after the meet. “We love putting her in the lead-off spot and she loves being in that spot, because she really sets the tone for us on those events.”

The GymTerps started the evening strong on vault, registering a team total of 49.075, the second highest of the season. Katy Dodds (9.850), Abbie Epperson (9.825), Dominiquea Trotter (9.825), and Kathy Tang (9.825) all registered scores higher than 9.800. The team did not count a score lower than 9.750 on the apparatus.

On the second rotation, bars, Maryland tied its season-high team total with a score of 48.850. The Terps did not count a fall on the event as no score registered lower than a 9.750.

The team excelled on beam, with Dani Kram (9.800) and Shannon Skochko (9.800) both registering personal bests during the rotation. Maryland hit all five routines and did not count a score lower than 9.750.

In the fourth and final rotation, floor, Maryland faltered, recording a team score of 48.025. Karen Tang hit her routine for a 9.850 and Dominiquea Trotter added a 9.775.

 Maryland heads to Morgantown, W.Va. on Sunday for a quad meet with West Virginia, Rutgers and New Hampshire. The meet begins at 2 p.m. Fans can watch the meet HERE.
