COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Freshman Jamal Wade hit his fourth home run of the season, but the No. 20 Maryland baseball team fell, 13-2, to Indiana at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Terrapins (32-15, 11-6) fell behind early before the Hoosiers pulled away in the late stages. Junior Kevin Martir notched two doubles and an RBI to pace Maryland offensively.
Nick Ramos keyed Indiana's two-run first inning with a double that plated Casey Rodrigue. Ramos later scored on an RBI groundout.
After the Hoosiers scored two more in the second, the Terps got on the board in the fourth. Sophomore Brandon Lowe singled to right before Martir stepped up and ripped a double to right to plate Lowe.
Indiana used a Isaiah Pasteur homer to chase Maryland starter Robert Galligan in the fifth. A Brad Hartong RBI single gave the Hoosiers a 6-1 lead after five.
In the seventh, Maryland grabbed another run. Pinch hitting for Tim Lewis, Wade crushed a 1-0 offering over the left field fence to make the score 6-2.
Indiana took control of the gave in the top of the eighth with seven runs. The Terps were unable to get on the board in either of the last two frames.
Maryland returns to action at 11 a.m. Sunday. The game will be broadcast live on BTN.
