Maryland dropped the team decision in both matches, moving to 0-2 on the season in head-to-head competition. Virginia (2-0) upended Lock Haven (1-1) 24-16 in the meet's other match. The Terps will resume competition next Sunday, November 27 at the Grapple at the Garden in New York City.

Match #1 -- Tyler Goodwin and redshirt freshman Danny Boychuck both notched falls, but Lock Haven won the final four bouts to secure the dual match victory 20-18 in Maryland's season opener. Five Terps made their collegiate dual match debuts against the Bald Eagles, including Boychuck (10-3) who pinned Kyle Hammond for his sixth bonus point victory of the season.

Boychuck went into another gear leading 3-2 with a minute to go, taking Lock Haven's Kyle Hammond down and putting him on his back at 6:31. It was the Haddonfield, N.J. native's third pin of the season and put the Terps ahead 15-7.

Goodwin took care of Lewis Williams in the first period of the 133-pound match, racking up early back points until getting the fall at 1:45.  Bannister won his first career 149-pounds dual, earning a 9-7 decision over Kyle Shoop. Redshirt sophomore Patrick Gerish/ nearly had Jared Siegrist pinned in the 165-pound match, tilting the Lock Haven grappler in the first period to go up early. Siegrist managed to hang on and make it close in the third period, but Gerish outlasted him for the 8-6 decision.

The upper weights proved to be the difference in the match, as Lock Haven edged the Terps to win their first match of the year, before ultimately finishing 1-1 on the day.

Match #2 -- Maryland picked up four wins, but Virginia used to four-match win streak in the middle and upper weights to outlast Maryland 22-13 in Sunday's Cavalier Duals finale. 12th-ranked Tyler Goodwin again shined for the Terps, securing his second bonus point victory of the day with an 8-0 major decision over Will Mason.

17th-ranked Alfred Bannister wrested one of the more exciting matches on the afternoon in the 149-pound contest, as the La Plata, Md. native and UVA redshirt freshman Sam Krivus needed overtime to settle on a winner. Neither wrestler would surrender a takedown, as the match turned to ride-outs after a 1-1 tie through sudden victory.

It appeared Krivus had found a way out in the firt 30-second period, but Bannister held on to a leg in the final seconds to deny the escape. Baby J then took care of business from the down position, getting the escape for a one-point tiebreaker win.

Maryland's upper weights also sealed a couple close matches, starting with a come-from-behind win for David-Brian Whisler in the 197-pound bout. Whisler trailed for most of the match, before executing a double overhook throw to put Chance McClure on his back for a quick takedown/near fall combo. The six point move made the difference, as the Warren, Ohio native picked up his first career dual win for the Terps.

Youssif Hemida was the second Terp to go to extra time, picking up his first dual win of the season with a 3-1 sudden victory decision over Chuck Boddy. After trading escapes in the second and third, Hemida fended off takedown attempts from the Cavalier heavyweight before getting the match clincher in sudden victory.
