CLEARWATER, Fla. –Sophomore second baseman Nick Dunn collected three hits and three RBIs, but No. 12 Louisville got past No. 22 Maryland, 10-7, at Spectrum Field in Clearwater, Fla.

The Terrapins (0-2) outhit the Cardinals 12-10 but could not overcome five errors. Redshirt senior Brandon Gum and junior Will Watson both notched two hits in their first career starts as Terps.

Louisville got on the board first in the first off an RBI single from Devin Hairston. The Cardinals then scored four runs, aided by three Maryland errors, in the second.

Maryland edged back into the game with a pair of runs in the third. Dunn homered off Louisville starter Kade McClure with Zach Jancarski on first to make the score 5-2. The fourth saw AJ Lee score on a Dunn RBI single before Jancarski came in to score on a Gum walk with the bases loaded. Junior Kevin Smith struck out to end the threat, but not before the Terps cut the lead to 5-4.

The Cardinals responded with five runs of their own in the fourth, with four hits, two walks, an error and two wild pitches propelling the home team's offense. Maryland cut into the lead in the fourth when Lee drove in sophomore Dan Maynard with a single with two outs.

The Terps then plated two in the sixth. Sophomore Marty Costes opened the inning with a walk before Gum singled to send Costes to third. The right fielder came home on a Madison Nickens groundout before Watson doubled down the right field line to plate Gum. Maynard extended the rally with a walk, but Lee grounded out to first to end the frame.

Maryland's final real threat came in the seventh. Jancarski walk to open the inning, before Dunn reached on a fielder's choice that saw Jancarski putout at second. Costes then singled into right to put runners on the corners before Gum and Smith struck out to end the inning.

Junior Taylor Bloom took the loss after working three innings and giving up six runs, three of them earned. Sophomore Andrew Miller tossed a solid one and one thirds of an inning in relief.

Maryland is back in action tomorrow in its final game in Clearwater against Alabama State. First pitch is set for 10 a.m. from Spectrum Field and the game can be heard live on the Maryland Baseball Network.
