COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Freshman left-handed pitcher Tyler Blohm struck out a career-high eight over seven shutout innings as the Maryland baseball team defeated Princeton, 2-0, to sweep the three-game series Sunday at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium.

The Terrapins (12-6) have now won 11 of their last 12 games and are 8-0 at home. Senior Madison Nickens team-high third home run of the year in the second proved to be the difference in the game.

Blohm took a no-hitter into the fifth and was in control throughout with only two walks and eight Ks. The freshman has lowered his ERA to 1.78, which is third in the Big Ten.

Nickens solo shot to right came on a 1-1 pitch from Princeton starter Ben Gross with one down in the second. Maryland's offense put runners on in seven of eight innings, but were kept off the scoreboard by Princeton pitching.

The Terps' final run came in the fourth. Senior Brandon Gum led off the inning with a double and scored when a throw intended to catch Gum stealing at third flew into left field. Maryland had runners on the corners with one down in the eighth, but did not bring anyone home.

Senior right-hander Jared Price took over for Blohm in the eighth and tossed a scoreless frame of relief. Redshirt junior Ryan Selmer initially entered to try and earn the save, but was replaced by sophomore LHP Andrew Miller after giving up a lead-off double. Miller worked the Terps out of the jam to earn his third save of the season.

For the weekend, Maryland's pitching allowed just one earned run over 27.0 innings pitched and struck out 26 to just four walks while allowing 13 hits.

The Terrapins return to action for a pair of midweek contests at UNC Wilmington on Tuesday (6 p.m.) and Wednesday (3:30 p.m.). Both games can be heard live on the Maryland Baseball Network.
