COLLEGE PARK, Md. – A nation-best nine members of the Maryland women's lacrosse team were selected to Inside Lacrosse's preseason All-Americans lists Tuesday.
Graduate midfielder Erica Evans, senior defender Julia Braig and senior midfielder Jen Giles were all named to the first team, senior attacker Caroline Steele, junior defender Lizzie Colson and junior attacker Kali Hartshorn were named to the second team, senior goalkeeper Megan Taylor was placed on the third team, while redshirt junior defender Meghan Doherty and sophomore midfielder Grace Griffin were selected as honorable mentions selection.
This marks the second straight season that Maryland placed the highest number on the IL preseason All-American teams.
Six of the nine on the 2019 preseason lists were named 2018 Inside Lacrosse All-Americans, helping lead Maryland to a 20-2 record, their 10th straight Final Four and a pair of Big Ten titles. Braig earned first team honors, Colson was placed on the second team, while Giles, Steele, Taylor and Hartshorn were all named honorable mention.
Evans transfers to Maryland from Canisius College where she played three years and was named the MAAC Midfielder of the Year in all three seasons as a Golden Griffin, while also being the school's first ever Tewaaraton Semifinalist.
Maryland was selected No. 2 in the Inside Lacrosse's Face-Off Yearbook's preseason Top 20. The Terps will open up their 2019 season on February 9.
