COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland lacrosse alumnus Isaiah Davis-Allen ('17) was named the Cascade Huntley Man of the Year in an announcement made by Major League Lacrosse Thursday. The award is one of the league's most prestigious honors and is named in honor of late MLL Head Coach, David Huntley, who passed away in 2017. The honor recognizes an individual who has demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, professionalism, and service to his community.
"Isaiah congratulations on winning the David Huntley MLL Man of the Year Award," said head coach John Tillman in a public message to Davis-Allen. "We all know that you're a great player, but those close to you realize you're a great role model, teammate and person. You've made a big impact on our sport, and our future is bright because of the things that you're doing. We're all behind you, keep creating positive change."
Davis-Allen has emerged as a leader within the sport of lacrosse as athlete activism against racism and injustice heightened across the country this summer. Davis-Allen helped organize the MLL's black players for pregame demonstrations of unity, and urged action from the MLL's leadership.
Davis-Allen was a two-time First Team All-American as a Terrapin, playing a key role during Maryland's memorable 2017 National Championship run. The Springfield, Va. native was awarded the 2017 Senior CLASS award, which is given annually to the senior student-athlete who best honors the top attributes in four areas: community, classroom, character, and competition.
Davis-Allen was highlighted for his work in Prince George's County as he introduced young Black boys to the sport. Other community service activities included reading to children at local schools, volunteering at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and coaching for Blackwolf Lacrosse Club and SYC Lacrosse Club.
When he's not working full-time as a Project Engineer for Buch Construction or on the field with the Bayhawks, Davis-Allen coaches for Nation United, a club that fields elite-level lacrosse teams encompassing mostly minority players as part of their mission to inspire more diversity within the sport. Davis-Allen's dedication to bettering the sport doesn't stop there; he also is a Clinic Instructor for Next Level Spartans, a lacrosse club that prioritizes player development and character formation.
