COLLEGE PARK, MD – Former Maryland baseball player
Tommy Gardiner has joined the Maryland baseball staff as the new Director of Player Development, head coach
Rob Vaughn announced on Friday.
Gardiner, who graduated from the University of Maryland in December, played in 108 games for the Terps from 2018-21. In his final season, Gardiner batted .248 with four home runs and 29 RBI's, nearly tripling his career RBI total in the process. Gardiner was also a key fixture on the 2021 Terps team that went to its first regional since 2017, playing all over the infield before settling in at third base.
"I am thrilled to welcome Tommy to the Maryland baseball staff," Vaughn said. "His baseball IQ is off the charts and is an incredible addition to our staff. I've known Tommy since I recruited him in 2016 and always knew he would make a great coach. He is the kind of person you want to surround your players with. The ability to add his knowledge of the game and expertise to our staff is invaluable. He has seamlessly transitioned from player to member of the staff and will make an incredible coach in the future. I believe you win with the right people, and that's exactly what Tommy is."
