No.1 Maryland and No.2 Virginia Set For Audi Field Battle

COLLEGE PARK, MD - The top-ranked Maryland men's lacrosse team battles No.2 Virginia on Saturday, March 19 at Audi Field as part of the Capitol Lacrosse Classic. 

Riding a six-game winning streak, Maryland is coming off a 24-6 drubbing of UAlbany inside Jones-Hill House. The 24 goals was the team's most since defeating Radford 26-3 on March 21, 1995. It was the first indoor lacrosse game in program history and the first Maryland sporting event to be held inside the former Cole Field House since the final men's basketball game in 2002. 

Both teams are undefeated this season. Maryland is the top-ranked scoring offense in the nation with 17.5 goals per game while Virginia is second with 17.3 goals per game. 

The Terps and Cavaliers have met 93 times in history with Maryland holding a 47-46 edge. The game is a rematch of the 2021 NCAA National Championship.

Jones-Hill Experience
  • Due to inclement weather in the College Park area, the Terps' game agains UAlbany was moved indoors to the Jones-Hill House, formerly Cole Field House. 
  • It was the first indoor lacrosse game in program history and the first Maryland sporting event to be held inside the former Cole Field House since the final men's basketball game in 2002. 
  • The Terps excelled offensively and the 24 goals were the team's most since defeating Radford 26-3 on March 21, 1995.

  • Fifth-year senior Logan Wisnauskas has established himself as one of the most dangerous offensive players in college lacrosse during his career with the Terps, and now leads the Maryland offense in his final year with the program. Here's a look at Wisnauskas by the numbers:

    5 – Wisnauskas (164) is ranked fifth on the active list of D1 players in goals, 18 behind the active leader in Chris Gray of North Carolina (182)

    3 – Wisnauskas currently ranks third in Division I in career points with 272.

    2 – Wisnauskas currently ranks second all-time at Maryland in career points (272) and career goals (164).

    8 – Wisnauskas has six career eight-point games as a Terrapin – the most in program history – last posting eight (5G, 3A) in Maryland's season-opening win over High Point.

  • Maryland was ranked No. 1 in the country in both the USILA Coaches Poll and the Inside Lacrosse Media Poll this week for the fifth straight week. 
  • The Terps have been tabbed No. 1 in at least one of the polls at some point during the year in four of the last six seasons.

  • Maryland has won 35 consecutive games when allowing an opponent under 10 goals dating back to the 2017 National Championship season. Maryland allowed the seventh-ranked Irish just nine goals last weekend. 
  • The Terps' defense held opponents to 10 or fewer goals in five of their six games this season. The steallar defense comes alongside a squad that has forced 60 turnovers. 
  • Logan Wisnauskas has started 63 consecutive games and reocrded a point in all 63.

Coaching Matchup
  • John Tillman is in his 15th season as a head coach, and 12th with the Terps, with a 168-59 career record for a (.740) winning percentage. Tillman is 147-40 (.787) as Maryland's head coach.
