Maryland Falls At VCU, 15-7

Box Score RICHMOND, VA – Maryland baseball led for the majority of the game before VCU scored 12 runs in the seventh inning to rally for a comeback win. The Terps lost 15-7 on Wednesday at The Diamond.

Aden Hill cranked a three-run home run to tie the game up and VCU added nine more runs in the inning to put the game away. The Terps (6-3) had strong performances on the mound from Omar Melendez and Logan Berrier up to that point.

Charlie Glennon notched his first career home run as a Terp on a solo shot. He finished with two RBIs, his first coming off a groundout to open up the Terrapins' scoring.

Eddie Hacopian went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. He has driven in runs in six straight games. His brother, Chris Hacopian, added multiple hits and a run.
Elijah Lambros drove in a run for the Terps with a single. He also scored a run.
VCU (5-4) had six players who finished with multiple hits and Aden Hill and Eli Weisner each homered.

Breaking Down The Action
  • Alex Calarco, Elijah Lambros and Jacob Orr walked in the top of the second to load the bases with one out. Charlie Glennon grounded out to score Calarco and VCU's pitcher walked another to load the bases again. Lambros scored on a passed ball. Leadoff hitter Eddie Hacopian then notched the first hit of the game with a two-RBI single. Maryland led 4-0 on just one hit.
  • VCU got on the board with an RBI double to left field by Ethan Iannuzzi. It was his second double of the game. Iannuzzi stole third base and the next batter drove him home on a sacrifice fly. VCU cut the lead in half, trailing 4-2.
  • Glennon cranked a solo home run to left field in the sixth inning to take a 5-2 lead. It was the transfer's first career home run as a Terp.
  • VCU got two baserunners on in the sixth with one out and the tying run at the plate. A single through the left side scored the runner from second but a double play ended the inning to prevent further damage. The Terps led 5-3 entering the seventh.
  • Lambros cashed in another run for Maryland with an RBI single in the seventh.
  • In one swing, Aden Hill tied the game up with a three-run home run in the seventh. Eli Weisner added a solo home run during the inning as well. Overall, VCU recorded a 12-run inning to take a commanding 15-6 advantage.
  • Maryland scored one run on an RBI ground out by Michael Iannazzo in the ninth.
Coach Swope's Take
"Just a tough way to lose a ball game. We had way too many mental errors in that seventh inning that allowed it to keep going and get out of hand. We gave away too many outs, and sometimes innings like that can pile on as guys get a little tight. We get a chance this weekend to go out there and put something like this behind us."
