COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Each week during the 2025-26 season, a Maryland student-athlete who has shown excellence on and off the playing field will be selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week.
This week's Terp of the Week is sophomore
Rose Coats of the women's cross country team.
Coats crossed the line first for the Terps to place second overall among 113 total runners at the highly competitive Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational. The meet featured five teams including nationally ranked Penn State and Syracuse.
The junior chemical engineering major completed the 6k course with a time of 20:18.8 - her best time at Penn State's Spiked Shoe Invitational for her career and her fifth-best time on a 6K course overall. She finished nearly 30 seconds faster than last year's race where she placed 14th overall - a 12-spot jump in placement.
This marked the second race of the season for the Terps. Coats led Maryland in the Opening Nigh XC25 Trials of Miles race where she took first overall to start the new campaign. She is coming off a record-breaking sophomore campaign where she competed in the NCAA Championship Meet and broke the school record for a 6K course twice during the year.
Coats and the Terps will return to action on Friday, October 3 at the prestigious Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh.
