RALEIGH, N.C. - Maryland erupted for five runs in the top of the ninth inning to overcome a two-run deficit and earn its first Friday-night conference victory of the season with a 13-11 triumph over NC State at Doak Field.

Aaron Etchison, Tim Kiene, Jake Stinnett and Jordan Hagel all had RBI singles in the ninth, as the Terps took a 13-10 lead just a half inning after NC State had broken a 8-8 tie with two runs in the bottom of the eighth.

The game featured a combined 28 hits, with Maryland taking an early 4-0 lead, NC State scoring eight unanswered, and Maryland tying it with four runs in the sixth inning. The Wolfpack edged ahead momentarily on Chris Schaeffer's RBI sacrifice fly and Chris Diaz's RBI single in the eighth, but Maryland quickly responded.

Stinnett, who blasted a two-run homer in the second, had a team-high three RBI, while Korey Wacker and Charlie White had two hits apiece. Hagel and Ryan Holland were also key contributors with a pair of RBI each.

Eric Potter came on to pitch four innings in relief for the Terps (20-25, 5-17) and struck out a season-high seven. He kept the Wolfpack (24-19, 9-13) scoreless until the eighth, when a single, walk and hit batsman led to a pair of runs.

Jimmy Reed (2-1), who recorded the final out of the eighth inning, was credited with the win. NC State's Chris Overman (6-2) took the loss after allowing five runs in the ninth. Wacker moved from center field to the mound and earned his third save of the season.

The Terps had jumped on Mazzoni for a pair of runs in both the first and second innings.

White led off the game with a single, Alfredo Rodriguez followed by ripping the first pitch he saw down the left-field line, and White hustled all the way around to score. Rodriguez later scored on a wild pitch and Maryland doubled its lead with one swing of the bat an inning later.

With a runner on and nobody out in the second inning, Stinnett knocked a 1-2 pitch out of the park for his team-high fifth home run of the season, making the Terrapin lead 4-0.

The Pack, however, shut down the Terps over the next three innings while scoring eight unanswered runs.

Back-to-back walks to open the bottom of the second opened the door to a three-run inning for NC State, as Matt Bergquist and Chris Diaz both had run-scoring doubles to pull within a run.

A Maryland error gave way to a pair of unearned runs in the third that handed NC State a 5-4 lead and the Wolfpack added to it in the fourth.

Pratt Maynard's two-run double followed by Andrew Ciencin's single up the middle that put runners on the corners was enough to chase Maryland starter David Carroll from the game after 3 1/3 innings. NC State's Danny Canela hit an infield single to score Maynard, but Potter was able to avoid any further damage by striking out two.

The Terps came back to tie it in the sixth with four runs, with Wacker's RBI double and Holland's two-run double leading the way.
