COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland and Clemson were tied 2-2 after six innings, but the Tigers scored three runs in the seventh inning and one in both the eighth and ninth to pull away for a 7-2 victory Saturday afternoon.

The win completed a sweep of Saturday's doubleheader and the series for Clemson (24-17, 12-9 ACC).

Maryland (25-17, 7-14 ACC) took a 2-0 lead in the first, but the Tigers got one back in the second and tied it in the fifth while shutting out the Terps over the final eight innings.

Tigers reliever Jonathan Meyer pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out two without issuing a walk.

David Carroll held Clemson to two runs in his first 6 1/3 innings of work, but the Tigers were able to break through with one out in the seventh.

With runners on second and third after a single and a double, Clemson's Jason Stolz gave the Tigers the lead with a sacrifice fly. Steve Wilkerson followed with a RBI single and Thomas Brittle tripled to right field to make it 5-2 Clemson.

Clemson designated hitter Phil Pohl hit a solo home run to lead off the eighth and extend the lead to 6-2, and Brittle capped the scoring with a RBI infield single in the ninth.

The Terps had taken a 2-0 lead in the first thanks to two walks and a hit. K.J. Hockaday drove in a run with a double down the right-field line, and Ryan Holland drove in another with a RBI groundout.

But Clemson got one run back the next half-inning, and then tied it in the fifth. With two outs, Stolz fouled off a pitch that Maryland catcher Jack Cleary slid for in attempt to make the catch, but had the ball bounce off his glove. Later in the at-bat, Stolz hit a home run to center field to knot it at 2-2.

Cleary capped off an impressive offensive series for Maryland by going 2-for-4. The junior finished the three-game set 9-for-12 to raise his season batting average to .329. Jordan Hagel also had two hits in the game.

Meyer (2-2) earned the win for Clemson, while Carroll (3-2) took the loss.

The Terps have a two-game mid-week series with Towson upcoming. Maryland plays at Towson on Tuesday at 3 p.m. before playing host to the Tigers Wednesday at 6 p.m.
