LEADING IT OFF
• Maryland topped No. 18 Michigan in its Big Ten home opening series last weekend. Maryland has now won four consecutive weekend series and is 10-1 at home.
• Maryland and Saint Joseph's have already met once during the 2017 season. The Terps topped the Hawks 11-5 on March 8 in College Park. Sophomores AJ Lee and Marty Costes, along with junior Justin Morris hit home runs as the Terps rallied from a 4-0 deficit to take the win.
• Costes leads the Terps in average (.359), slugging (.576) and is tied for the team lead in home runs (5). He had four multi-hit games last week and hits home runs in three consecutive games.
• Maryland has seen a huge jump on the base paths this season with 48 steals in 23 games after 28 in all 57 games last year. The Terps rank fifth in the country in steals per game (2.09).
• Maryland has won 14 of its last 17 games since a 1-5 start. The Terps success has been helped by its discipline at the plate. The Terps have 123 walks, the most in the Big Ten.
• The 2017 season is head coach John Szefc's fifth season in College Park. Szefc has led the Terps to four straight 30-win seasons and two NCAA Super Regional appearances, both program firsts. He became the fastest coach in Maryland history to win 150 games when the Terps topped Bryant in game one of a doubleheader on 3/12.
• The Terps topped the Big Ten preseason coaches poll while D1Baseball, Perfect Game and Baseball America named Maryland the Big Ten favorites for the 2017 season. It is the third straight year D1Baseball has tabbed the Terps its Big Ten preseason frontrunner.
