Tillman Named Inside Lacrosse’s Coach of the Decade

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland men's lacrosse head coach John Tillman, who has led the Terrapin program to one of its most successful eras in school history, was named the Inside Lacrosse Coach of the Decade in the publication's Best of the Decade edition released this month.

Since arriving in College Park in 2011, Tillman has guided the program to unprecedented heights, highlighted when Maryland captured its first NCAA National Championship since 1975 to culminate a historic 2017 season. Since taking over the helm as Maryland head coach nine years ago, Tillman has led the Terps to seven NCAA Final Fours, five national title games and a 122-38 (.763) overall record.

Maryland has led the country in All-American selections (53), Major League Lacrosse draft selections (36), NCAA Tournament wins (21) and Final Fours (7) under Tillman -- the most of any  coach during that span.

Additionally, the program's accomplishments have translated to the classroom, as Tillman has had 13 USILA Scholar All-Americans in nine seasons. The 2015 spring semester and 2016 fall semester combined for the program's highest GPA in more than 10 years.

Tillman's 2019 team advanced to the program's 17th consecutive NCAA Tournament while reaching the quarterfinal round for the sixth straight season. Jared Bernhardt became Tillman's third consecutive Tewaaraton Finalist while becoming one of five Terrapins to garner USILA All-American Status.

Tillman's 2020 squad is poised for another standout season, as the Terps return four 2019 USILA All-Americans in senior Jared Bernhardt (1st Team), junior Bubba Fairman (3rd Team), redshirt junior Logan Wisnauskas (HM) and junior Anthony DeMaio (HM) while welcoming the No. 1 ranked 2019 recruiting class via Inside Lacrosse.
