This is Maryland's 27th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, ninth straight and 15th overall bid in
Brenda Frese's 17 years at Maryland. The Terrapins are 45-25 (.643) all-time in the NCAA Tournament and 33-13 (.717) under Frese. She's led the Terps to eight Sweet Sixteens, six Elite Eights, three Final Fours and the 2006 NCAA title.
The Terrapins are 15-0 in NCAA First Round games under Frese. Maryland has earned a top four seed in 12 of its 15 NCAA Tournaments under her.
The Terps are 1-0 vs. Radford, winning their only meeting, 83-44, in College Park on Dec. 28, 1996.
Frese was voted Big Ten Coach of the Year, for the third time in her career, by her peers and the media.
Taylor Mikesell was voted Big Ten Freshman of the Year by the league's head coaches. She also earned All-Big Ten First Team honors by the media and Second Team honors by the coaches. Junior
Kaila Charles was a unanimous First Team selection.
Stephanie Jones earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors by the coaches and Second Team honors by the media.
Shakira Austin earned Honorable Mention honors by the media and was named to the All-Big Ten Defensive Team. She and Mikesell made the All-Big Ten Freshman team.
The Terps won the Big Ten regular season title and advanced to their fifth straight Big Ten championship game earlier this month.
Charles was named to the All-Big Ten Tournament Team after averaging 26.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.0 steals in the Terps' three-game run to the Big Ten Tournament final. She notched a career-high 36 points, off 15-for-30 shooting from the field, with 9 boards in the championship game. Charles is one of five of the nation's top small forwards as a finalist for the Cheryl Miller Award. She is also one of 15 of the top players in the country named to the Wooden Award National Ballot.
Mikesell has made 90 three-pointers this year and needs to make just two to top the program season record of 91 made by Kristi Toliver in 2008-09. Austin has 82 blocks this season, more than any Terrapin in a single season since 1978-79.
