COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland men's lacrosse team had five players named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-America team released Thursday. Jared Bernhardt was named a First Team All-American, Curtis Corley and Bubba Fairman garnered Third Team honors, while Anthony DeMaio and Logan Wisnauskas earned Honorable Mention accolades.
Maryland now has a nation's best 58 USILA All-Americans since head coach John Tillman took over the program in 2011, including at least five every season. Maryland has had at least one First Team All-American in every season since 2013.
This is Bernhardt's third appearance on the USILA All-America team, adding to an already impressive collection of accolades in 2019 which includes Tewaaraton Finalist, Inside Lacrosse Media All-American and First Team All-Big Ten selection. Bernhardt established himself as one of the nation's most productive players, leading the Terps in goals (51) while ranking second in points (78).
The Longwood, Fla. native's 51 goals were the second most in a single season by a Terrapin, becoming just the third Maryland player all-time with at least 50 in a season. His 78 points ranks sixth on the single season all-time list while his 4.59 points per game average is good for 16th in the country.
The junior attackman had three game-winning goals to his name this season, including the OT winner in Maryland's 10-9 victory over Ohio State on April 20. He put together a streak of six consecutive hat tricks from March 9 to April 14, the longest hat trick streak by a Terp since 2001. Bernhardt added another clutch goal for the Terps in their NCAA First Round win over Towson, scoring with just three seconds left in regulation to force overtime.
This is Corley's second USILA All-American honor, after previously receiving honorable mention accolades as a junior. The senior close defender anchored the Maryland defense all season, starting in all 17 games while totaling 19 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. The Medford Lakes, N.J. native helped keep eight opponents under 10 goals this season, while also posting his first career assist in Maryland's 16-12 win over Michigan on April 6.
Fairman shined despite increased defensive attention in 2019 to earn USILA All-America honors, posting a career-high 42 points which ranked fourth on the team. The sophomore midfielder posted four hat tricks on the year, including three-goal, one-assist performance in Maryland's OT win over Towson in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. The Sandy, Utah native recorded a career-high six points against Villanova, while also scooping 21 ground balls and causing three turnovers. Â Â
Wisnauskas was tabbed a USILA Honorable Mention Al-American for the first time after a record-breaking sophomore campaign in College Park. The Sykesville, Md. native led the Terps in points (79), which broke the Maryland record for points by a sophomore set back in 1965 (74) back Jack Heim. Wisnauskas ranks 12th in the nation in points per game (4.65) and became the first Terrapin to ever post back-to-back 50-point seasons as a freshman and sophomore. The attackman has posted three eight-point games this year, becoming just the third player in school history to post three such games in the same season.
DeMaio had a breakout sophomore campaign for the Terrapins in 2019, ranking third on the team in points (46) and assists (18) to earn his first USILA All-American nod. DeMaio came through in big games for the Terps throughout the year, including a career-high four goals vs. #19 North Carolina and a three-goal, three-assist performance in Maryland's comeback win at #19 Rutgers on April 14. The midfielder tied for the team lead in goals during the NCAA Tournament, scoring six including a four-goal performance against third-seeded Virginia. Â Â Â
