COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Seniors Louis Dubick of men's lacrosse and Gaby Go from women's track & field/cross country have earned Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarships, as announced by the conference offices Thursday.
Two students competing in intercollegiate athletics from each of the 14 Big Ten institutions who plan to continue their education at a graduate degree program were each awarded a $7,500 scholarship, based on primarily academic achievements.
This year's recipients span 19 different sports and will continue their education in a variety of different disciplines, including: biochemistry, biological sciences, business, English, engineering physics, exercise science, healthcare management policy, kinesiology, mechanical engineering, movement and sports sciences, nutrition and health sciences, physical therapy, pre-medicine, pre-pharmacy, psychology, public health, speech language and hearing sciences, special education and women's studies.
Dubick graduated with a degree in finance last year and is currently pursuing a master's of finance at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. The Potomac, Md. native will work with Morgan Stanley after graduation on the MS institutional equities cross-asset sales team. He is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and was named Maryland's Big Ten Sportsmanship award honoree this season. Dubick has previously received the Geary F. Eppley Award as the male student-athlete with the highest GPA and has been a Dean's List honoree. Â
Dubick is playing his best lacrosse for the Terrapins as a senior, scoring a career-high 27 goals – which ranks third on the team. The attackman has started all 15 games of the Terps this season, adding five assists for a total of 32 points on the year.
He helped lead the Terps to the 2017 National championship as a sophomore, in addition to three Big Ten regular season titles and two tournament titles during his career.
Gaby Go, who will graduate in May of 2019 with a degree in Public Health Science, is a four-year letterwinner with the cross country and track & field teams. Go has been accepted to the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore. During her time as an undergraduate student-athlete, Go was awarded the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award, won Academic All-Big Ten every year from 2015-2018, won the President's Cup for Academic Excellence in 2015 and 2016, and was named to the School of Public Health Dean's List every year from 2015-18.
Go also served as the vice president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and many roles with other student groups. On the track, she competed in the 800m, 1000m, and 1 mile events, both indoor and outdoor, and while also competing at cross country meets in the fall.
Each Big Ten institution developed its own on-campus selection process when awarding the scholarship. Students must have maintained at least a 3.2 grade-point-average, demonstrated leadership qualities, served as an excellent role model and intended to continue their academic work beyond their baccalaureate degree at a graduate degree program. The scholarship will be used to pay expenses of the student's postgraduate education to include such related activities as research and teaching, as well as other expenses such as tuition, fees, room and board, required course-related supplies and books. In order to retain the scholarship, the recipient must be accepted into a full-time graduate degree program within three years from the fall semester after selection.
