COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The fourth-ranked Maryland men's lacrosse team returns home Saturday to host Penn (0-0) at Maryland Stadium. Faceoff is slated for 1:00 pm and the game will be streamed on BTN+.
The Terrapins are back in action after a thrilling come-from-behind victory against Richmond on February 8, rallying from down five goals in the fourth quarter to eventually clinch a 14-13 double overtime victory.
STORYLINES BY THE NUMBERS
2 – Maryland had to play two overtime periods to seal a victory at Richmond on February 8, the longest game for the Terps since defeating Johns Hopkins 8-7 in a triple overtime classic on April 28, 2018. The Terps are no stranger to overtime games, playing in five OT contests a season ago. The Terps are 5-2 in OT games since 2018.
3 – Sophomore John Geppert had a career day at Richmond last weekend to garner Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors, as the Washington, D.C. native caused three turnovers, scooped four ground balls and scored his first collegiate goal in just his second career start.
7 – Logan Wisnauskas has now posted seven points in back-to-back games, becoming the first Terp to do so since Connor Kelly tallied seven points vs. Penn State and eight points vs. Rutgers back during the 2018 season. Wisnauskas leads the Terps in both goals (9) and points (14) this season.
10 – Jared Bernhardt has now entered the top-ten in all-time goals list at Maryland, passing Jim Wilkerson (1980-83 – 117) with his third goal of the day at Richmond. Bernhardt enters this weekend's game with 118 goals, and is primed to continue his ascent of Maryland's all-time list in the coming weeks. Bernhardt is just the fourth Terp since the turn of the century to reach the top-10 in all-time goals, joining Matt Rambo (155), Joe Walters (153) and Connor Kelly (128).
12 – In all, 12 different players found the back of the net for Maryland in the team's season-opener against High Point, including five multi-goal scorers. Four Terps (Jack Brennan, Chase Cope, Daniel Maltz & Nicholas DeMaio) all tallied their first collegiate goal in the victory.
14 – Maryland owns a 14-0 edge in the all-time series between the two schools since the series began in 1924. Maryland won last year's meeting 13-12 in double overtime on a goal from then-sophomore Roman Puglise.
15 – Maryland has won 15 straight February games, and is 29-2 overall under John Tillman in games played in the opening month of the season.
23 – Maryland's offense was running at a historic pace in the team's season-opener vs. High Point on February 1, as the Terps scored 23 goals on 70 shots. The 23 goals were tied for the most-ever in a single game in the John Tillman era – matching Maryland's 23-goal output vs. Mount St. Mary's on February 13, 2013.
